EUROWAVES Objectives

The aim of this project is to develop a prototype tool (EUROWAVES) capable of quickly and reliably assessing the wave climate at a coastal or shallow water location, more or less anywhere in Europe, with acceptable accuracy and spatial resolution for most users. This will allow, at the next stage, the development of commercial packages and/or atlases giving users easy and timely access to coastal wave statistics, initially for the European market, but with the option to extend the methodology worldwide.

To reach its aim, EUROWAVES needs to integrate several modules, each covering one of the necessary steps. These include an extensive offshore wave statistics, a detailed bathymetry of the considered area, two or more wave models to transfer the wave conditions to the desired nearshore location, and a statistical package for the evaluation of the nearshore wave statistics.
