Interactive WWA 2.0 demo

In order to give you a feeling of how WWA works, we have established an interactive trip through the program.

Upon starting up the program, the first window to appear is a world map. If you next click and pull down on the Data button, you will see a choice of different types of data. You can also choose to analyse data for a single 10 degree square (fastest) or for a larger area or region (click here for a demonstration of the region option) Depending on what data is included in your particular atlas, this may include the following: GEOSAT, TOPEX, BUOY or MODEL. If you choose GEOSAT, all the 10 degree boxes worldwide for which you have GEOSAT data on your PC will pop up and indicated by a vertical shading. If you then select Topex as well, the squares for which these data available are marked by a horizontal shading. Similarly, available Buoy data will be indicated by cross shading and, finally, Model data by shading in the opposite direction. The example below shows which data were available on my PC at the time that these pages were made. Note that both Geosat, Topex and model data are available in almost all squares globally, whereas buoy data are available in only a few squares.

Double clicking on one of the squares will then result in all the chosen data for that square being loaded. Click on one of the red rectangles to examine WWA for one of the areas available in this demo; i.e., the demo from the US East Coast Atlas or the full demo for the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific (click here to download the full demo).

Welcome to the interactive demo of the US East Coast and Gulf of Mexico wave atlas.
(If you liked what you have seen and wish to order this atlas please click here)

We have now opened one of the 10 degree square units which make up the US East Coast atlas.

The ground tracks of the Geosat and Topex satellite altimeters are clearly seen, as are the locations of the NOAA data buoys included in the atlas. Click on the red rectangle (Select Whole Area button) to calculate the average wave heights along all satellite tracks. The Distance Measure option allows you to calculate the distance between two points. Click on Distance Measure to see an example
